Terry Thiele (Owner/Recruiter) received her BFA from James Madison University with a concentration in Interior Design. Her summer internship was spent working with Gwathmey Siegel Associates Architects in Manhattan. After graduation she worked for Michael Graves and Associates for 2 years before leaving the field to work as a recruiter. She has remained in touch with her colleagues and friends in the design industry and she uses these contacts as well as her recruiting experience to match top level candidates and firms.

Job One

Boutique-Style, Published Manhattan Firm:

Mid-town Architectural Design Firm focused on High-End retail spaces and luxury residence projects. Firm has a strong focus on growth and longevity. Currently publishing their first book.

1.) Project Manager

To work on a variety of medium to large scale new construction and renovation projects from conception to completion. Projects will be HIGH-END Fashion Retail facilities and offices, as well as high-end Private residences. Project Manager will plan project layouts and prepare scale drawings, prepare contract documents for the building contractor, integrate engineering elements into unified designs, conduct periodic on-site observation work, etc…

Requirements:

  • Degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in an architectural firm.
  • Experience with retail and/or residential projects.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the architectural process from the proposal and contract negotiations through contract administration.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of architecture, technical detailing, and construction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in AutoCAD 2D-3D, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop & Illustrator and/or other applicable software

2.) Project Architect

Project Architect will plan project layouts and prepare scale drawings, prepare contract documents for the building contractor, integrate engineering elements into unified designs, conduct periodic on-site observation work, etc… Consult with Clients to determine functional/spatial requirements. All staff manages a project to some degree.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in an architectural firm.
  • Experience with Retail and/or residential projects.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the architectural process from the proposal and contract negotiations through contract administration.

Job Two

Concept-Driven Hospitality Manhattan Design Firm:

an award-winning concept-driven hospitality design firm seeks a talented Senior Interior Designer that is a graduate of an accredited Masters or

Bachelor of Architecture or Interior Design program and has a minimum of 8 years experience in the hospitality design industry. The Senior Designer will take a key leadership role and will mentor a team of 6 interior designers and will grow our existing Interiors/FF&E Department. Project focus will be on large-scale hotels, casinos and cruise ships. The Senior Interior Designer will focus on and lead the FF&E and specifications portion of our projects. This is a position that requires a leader who can develop standards for the department and oversee 6 other interior designers.

This position will require you to take a key leadership role on a project team with the Studio Director, Project Manager(s), Designers and Junior Designers to bring a project from concept to completion. Responsibilities include leading interiors specifications portion of projects including sourcing and schedule coordination for a project and organizing and producing commercial grade FF&E and architectural specification packages. You will clearly communicate design ideas through freehand sketching and rendering, compile a set of interior design documents which include, but are not limited to, material specifications, furniture design and specifications and millwork details. Applicant should be a self-starter, creative and have the ability to multi-task between different projects. You will be required to express your ideas both visually and verbally. The nature of this job will require non-traditional hours and travel.

Candidates must be proficient in AutoCad 2006; some knowledge of 3D Studio Max is a plus but not required.

High End Residential Manhattan Firm with Beautiful Modern Work:

Small (3-person) firm in Union Square seeks intermediate architect with 5-8 years of experience to work on very high-end residential projects.

Architect/Project Manager, NY:

Design Studio/Architecture Firm with Modern inclinations is seeking a well-organized, articulate and detail oriented individual with a strong design sensibility, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and great graphic skills to join our team. Our current projects include residential new construction from the ground up as well as additions/renovations to existing structures with significant exterior work/scope.

The ideal candidate should have a BArch or MArch and approximately 5-8 years of experience in the US on high-end residential projects, and experience working independently in the following tasks:

  • Drawing document production for all project phases
  • Client and consultant coordination
  • CA experience, including shop drawing review, RFI response, direct communication with contractors and vendors, etc.
  • Research skills
  • Maintaining and organizing all project documentation and correspondence

Proficiency with AutoCad, Adobe Suite and 3D modeling.

Position is full-time, to start immediately. Location: Union Square, NY. All applicants must be authorized to work in the US. Salary to commensurate with experience.


Job Four

Cutting-Edge Branding Manhattan Architecture Firm:

SoHo firm seeks quality designers of varying levels for full time or freelance work. Will consider all levels, but currently has strong need for a registered architect. They do a lot of retail and exhibition work and have recently acquired some very large-scale projects.

This firm “creates transformational environments through architecture and experiential branding”. Their “multi-discipline process integrates commerce, culture, and community”.

They are looking for “inspired and inspiring collaborators” and generally hire architects, interior designers, graphic designers, and brand strategists.

Firm provides an allowance for staff to participate in creative ventures- whether it’s attending a concert or show or buying paint supplies. They also offer sketch classes an other events in studio.


Job Five

Manhattan Firm Built Around Award-Winning Architect w/ International Reputation:

Leading NYC design firm with a 38 year history and international reputation looking for strong designers. Emphasis on collaboration, diversity, global outreach, social life, and continuing education. Currently considering all levels of Architects (including entry level) as well as Interior Designers and Landscape Designers. Currently focused on finding candidates with experience and interest in work on single family homes.

Experience in AutoCAD, Adobe Graphic Software, and Sketch-Up is strongly preferred.

Intermediate Interior Designer

This person should possess 4-5 years of experience on a variety of project types with an emphasis on high-end institutional work (public libraries, university buildings, theaters, performing arts spaces).

Job Functions:

Working knowledge of Autocad, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign

Strong graphic and oral presentation skills including hand rendering

Strong writing skills

Experience with developing complex FF&E palettes and budgets and writing FF&E specifications

Experience designing custom carpets, millwork and furniture

Experience with developing interior architectural finish palettes and schedules for high-end, large-scale institutional buildings

Experience with projects that range from 1-5 years in duration

Technical knowledge of FF&E as it relates to audio/visual equipment and power/tel/data

Full understanding of ADA regulations

Familiar with NY interior design FF&E market

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with multiple in-house architectural teams

Interest in traveling to project sites for presentations/meetings

Requirements:

Minimum BS, BA or BFA in design, architecture, art history (if paired with a Masters in Interior Design) Working on passing NCIDQ exams or have passed already.

Large Firm with Several US Locations with Emphasis on Sustainable Design:

Large firm with offices in NY, DC, Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles works in a variety of areas (commercial, academic, healthcare, interiors, public/civic, and urban) and they are active in LEED. They will consider all levels of architects and Interior Designers, though their strongest needs are for a Managing Principal for their Manhattan office and a Design Principal for their Washington, DC office. Also has a strong need for interior designers with about 5+ years of experience. Institutional and/or health care experience is a plus.

They would like a well-rounded architect with 4+ years of experience including construction drawings. Current projects include Liberty Park (in Chicago) and a Ground Zero project. This is a great opportunity to work for a small firm and get in-depth experience right out of school.

Looking for candidate with a lot of health care experience and relationships with local hospitals. Master’s Degree and Registration a plus, though not a requirement. This firm also works in the areas of commercial, retail, residential, restaurants, etc. Also seeks architect or engineer to focus on construction administration with approximately 10 years of experience to work on 30 story condominium project.
